Omega-3 fatty acids are polyunsaturated fatty acids. In contrast to saturated fatty acids, the body cannot produce these fatty acids itself. They therefore have to be supplied from outside – i.e. through food. Since omega-3 fatty acids are vital for our organism, they are also known as essential fatty acids. Since the ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids is not balanced, it promotes inflammation in the body. If the imbalance is not corrected, it can have serious consequences. Experts assume that the majority of diseases of civilization such as heart attacks, strokes, asthma, rheumatism and neurodermatitis can be traced back to the development of silent inflammation, which is promoted by an excess of omega-6 fatty acids.

Why does the body need Omega 3?
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids, meaning that the body cannot produce them itself and therefore must obtain them through food. There are three main types of omega-3 fatty acids: alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Here are some of the important functions of omega-3 fatty acids in the body:
Cardiovascular health
-
Lowering blood pressure - Omega-3 fatty acids can help lower blood pressure, which can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
-
Lowering triglycerides - Omega-3 fatty acids can lower blood triglyceride levels, which is important for heart health.
-
Improving lipid profile - They can help improve the balance between "good" HDL cholesterol and "bad" LDL cholesterol.
Brain function and development
-
Neurological Development - DHA is particularly important for brain and eye development, especially during pregnancy and the first few years of life.
-
Cognitive function - Omega-3 fatty acids are components of cell membranes in the brain and can support cognitive function.
-
Protection against neurodegenerative diseases - There is evidence that omega-3 fatty acids may play a protective role in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's.
Anti-inflammatory
- Anti-inflammatory properties - Omega-3 fatty acids can have anti-inflammatory effects, which is important for preventing chronic inflammatory conditions in the body.
immune system
- Immune system support - Omega-3 fatty acids can improve immune system function and promote resistance against infections.
Joint health
- Relief from joint problems - Omega-3 fatty acids can have a soothing effect on inflammatory joint diseases such as rheumatism.
Skin health
- Skin Moisture - Omega-3 fatty acids help maintain skin moisture and elasticity.
